What should I even use therapy for?

Don't worry if you are unsure of what you want to use therapy for, this is completely normal. Sometimes therapy is simply the process of figuring this question out.

There are however, specific reasons someone may reach out for therapy, such as the diagnostic difficulties listed in point one here. I have also listed some common referral reasons for therapy below.

Emotional Wellbeing & Self-Understanding

  • “I’m struggling with confidence or performance.”

  • “I can’t seem to manage stress in my life right now.”

  • “My emotions feel overwhelming and out of control.”

  • “I feel numb, flat, or disconnected from my feelings.”

  • “Even when life is going well, I don’t feel good about it.”

  • “I’ve lost motivation or my zest for life.”

  • “I want to feel happier and more in control of my life.”

  • “I’d like to understand my emotions and how to regulate them better.”

  • “I’d like to develop my mindfulness and stay more present.”

Self-Esteem, Identity & Inner Critic

  • “I constantly doubt myself or feel like an imposter.”

  • “I struggle with self-esteem and never feel good enough.”

  • “I’ve never really felt accepted, worthy, lovable, or safe.”

  • “I don’t know how to show myself the same compassion I offer others.”

  • “I always feel like others will think I’m incompetent or stupid.”

  • “I’ve read the self-help books, but I still feel broken.”

Anxiety & Worry

  • “I can’t stop worrying or feeling anxious.”

  • “Anxiety is exhausting me.”

  • “I always feel like I’ve done something wrong.”

  • “I carry a lot of guilt or shame—sometimes from the past, sometimes just in general.”

Behaviour Patterns & Habit Change

  • “I have repetitive habits or behaviours that are holding me back.”

  • “I want to break cycles that are stopping me from living fully.”

Trauma, Loss & Life Transitions

  • “I want to process a past trauma or understand how it has shaped me.”

  • “I’m struggling with PTSD symptoms.”

  • “I’m grieving and can’t seem to process or move forward.”

  • “A big life change has happened and I’m finding it hard to adjust.”

Exploring Identity & Neurodiversity

  • “I want to understand my neurodiversity and how to work with my traits.”

  • “I’d like to learn more about myself and how I function best.”

These are just some of the common themes clients bring to therapy. Whatever you’re facing, this service is designed to offer a supportive, creative, and evidence-based space to help you make meaningful changes.

What if I still have no idea what I want from therapy?

It can be really normal to be unclear about what you are experiencing and why. I would recommend booking yourself in for a full assessment and we can use various methods to get to grips with whatever it might be that is happening for you.

I can help you decide what type of support might be best for you going forward, or at the very least will provide you with evidence based recommendations.
