Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
"OCD is doubt's favourite habitat."
Jeff Bell
Evidence based OCD therapy, online and in Manchester
I've worked with OCD for over a decade, trained alongside some of the UK's leading CBT and ACT specialists, and treated hundreds of complex cases in frontline NHS services. The combination of approaches I use isn't random or experimental. It's an approach guided by the evidence base, and shaped by clinical experience.
Most importantly, I can tell you with confidence that no matter how hopeless you are feeling, OCD does not have to run your life.

How I Work with OCD

Assessment: A detailed conversation to understand your specific OCD patterns and build a tailored treatment plan.

Treatment: CBT/ERP breaks key behavioural patterns, ACT helps you relate differently to your thoughts and emotions, and EMDR processes past experiences which fuel the OCD.

Common OCD Patterns I Work With

-
Harm OCD (intrusive thoughts about hurting others, past present or future based thoughts)
-
Contamination fears (excessive washing, avoidance)
-
Checking and rituals (locks, appliances, needing things "just right")
-
POCD (paedophile OCD and fears about the meaning of thoughts)
-
ROCD (relationship OCD, constant doubts about your intimate feelings)
-
Scrupulosity (religious/moral OCD)
-
Health anxiety/somatic OCD (hyperawareness of bodily sensations)

If your OCD doesn't fit these categories, that's fine. The patterns vary, but the underlying mechanisms can often be treated in the same ways.
Why Work With Me
I've been doing this for over a decade. I've worked in high-complexity NHS settings where I've seen every variation of OCD you can imagine. I've trained other therapists. I've supervised qualified practitioners. I know this work inside out.

But more than that: I get it. I understand how exhausting it is to live with something like OCD. I understand the shame, the isolation, the feeling that nobody else could possibly have thoughts this disturbing. I've experienced similar anxieties myself and have worked with enough people to know that your OCD, whatever form it takes, isn't as unique or as terrible as it feels.

As hopeless as you may feel, you're not broken, you're stuck. And people get unstuck all the time.

Ready to Start?
If this approach makes sense to you, the next step is an assessment session where we can discuss your specific patterns and whether this way of working fits your situation.

No pressure. No obligation. Just clarity about what you're dealing with and what treatment might look like.
